Thanks Time.

Its Sunday, time for a Facebook check-in. Time to say Thank You to various people:

Dub The Earth, Fast Decline, Daniel Kemp, Kangaroo Moon, John Fairhurst, Here and Now, The Don Bradmans, Hoopy Frood, Brewers Daughter, Echo Town, Magic Bus, Seize The Day for some amazing music and especially Hayerajah for getting me dancing my socks off. Claire Ferguson Walker for hugely entertaining talk and poetry (and another poet on Thursday whose name I didn't get). Herbie Giradet for running a great discussion on Community Energy and Ian Bright for reminding us that Western Power are on the case in solving the grid bottleneck to the SW in 2017 whatever happens with Hinkley. Theo, Shane and Nikki for a great talk and discussion on Hinkley. Helen Steel and Rob Evans for the session on Pitchford (police infiltration of protest and activist groups) Enquiry. Marcus Moore for the bus talk. Simon Fairlie for setting out the basis of the Landworkers Alliance rural manifesto clearly in his inimitable way. Molly Scott Cato for moving on really well from the referendum debate and highlighting the opportunities (challenging ones) it has created - this was always the point of voting leave to create some disruption to the status quo. All those involved in organising and running the Green Gathering and especially those whose history goes back to Molesworth. And of course all those who attended for being so friendly to each other - another world is not only possible, it exists.

A Good Thing to Trump

  • Trump

Here's a positive thought about the direction of the new US administration.
It could be that Trump will be far more focussed on internal US affairs than Barrack O'Bomber and his predecessors.
US is a sovereign country and can do what it likes to control its borders whether we like it or would do the same ourselves or not.
It can also pretty much do what it likes inside its borders - we already trade and have relations with plenty of pretty despicable regimes around the world, if the US wants to head towards being another pariah state then so be it.
If Trump's project is to make Amerika great again on the inside for god-bothering citizens, then at least he is not so much bombing and destabilising other countries and that is a good thing.
This could mark a step on the road back from the US being the schoolyard bully of nations to it playing more in the role of the fat kid with family issues who doesn’t really get on with anyone.
This is part and parcel of the decline of empire and is to be welcomed, whilst keeping a weather eye out for the deposed bully lashing out at random.

Saturday Facebook day this week as I'll be offline for a while. Glad to see that things round here have calmed down a bit. Still a fair amount of EU nonsense, but some sense in among it.

The important question is what steps are we taking to respond to the current climate emergency #funnyweatherwerehavingwhichishowweexperienceclimatechangebutyoucantsaythatanyeventiscauseddirectlybyclimatechangecosthatsnothowscienceworks.

Wow! Just mowed the lawn with my new scythe following last weekend's training session with Milos the Eco Reaper and it is fantastic. A real pleasure with totally unexpected rewards as you get the high of becoming as one with the tool and the task and the grass and the world is good. Why would you want to do it any other way again!

  1. Excercise is good for you

This is NOT a "Blog" because I dislike both the word and the usually self serving shite that such things contain. Not that this website isn't full of self serving shite, but it is not intended for you to read and you won't find any RSS or Twatter feeds or FaecesBook links (although if we've actually met in person and have reason to keep in touch you might find me there) and you also won't find it organised like a diary with chronological ordering dominating genuflecting at the altar of the Tyrant Thyme. Instead it is just a random collection of loosely linked and categorised ideas and things I find interesting and thoughts that occurred to me.
