Roger's Randomness

Drifting off course

Back in the day, meaning the 60's and early 70's, one's concerns started to shift from the probability of 'them' dropping 'the bombv' and starting WW111 Annihilation through the concern for nuclear winter and the ecological catasrophe that impled, to issues of radiation, pollution, population and ultimately ecology.

Personally I first heard of global warming and the greenhouse effect in the sixth form (1968) and translated the implications of the exponential function from the maths classroom to the size of populations and the levels of waste.

Dimitri Orlov's Four Questions

  • collapse

Dimitri Orlov asked four questions following the 2014 Age of Limits conference. They covered issues that he felt needed answers to enable movement beyond intellectualising about collapse to practical action and changes. They covered family relations, wider relationships, personal physical resilience and creating communities.

Here are my responses together with the full questions.

Debate of the day - Jane wants to replace the curtains (which need replacing as they have a floral pattern and colour which clashes with other furnishings in the room) with slatted blinds. She is talking about wide wooden slats. I am viscerally against this idea and I wasn't sure why so have thought it through.

I think that there are several things going on here in my head to do with the pattern of bedroom and the characteristic actions and feelings associated with a harmonious sleeping space.

A Question

Do you want Healthcare, or do you want to be Healthy?

Of course it is not an either/or, or even a real question, but it does draw attention to the way we can so easily forget the real priorities.

Do you want the new big thing, or do you want to be happy?

Do you want to be rich, or do you want to be comfortable?

Do you want the quick fix, or do you want to do the work for a real lasting solution?

Do you want to sit there wasting away on the internet, or do you want to be active and involved?

What The F...

This is NOT a "Blog" because I dislike both the word and the usually self serving shite that such things contain. Not that this website isn't full of self serving shite, but it is not intended for you to read and you won't find any RSS or Twatter feeds or FaecesBook links (although if we've actually met in person and have reason to keep in touch you might find me there) and you also won't find it organised like a diary with chronological ordering dominating genuflecting at the altar of the Tyrant Thyme. Instead it is just a random collection of loosely linked and categorised ideas and things I find interesting and thoughts that occurred to me.
